Need a good book...
« on: June 19, 2011, 12:11:50 PM »
Hi!
Has anyone read any good books lately? I'm in a reading rut, and I've been reading In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan over and over and over. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!!  :D

Have you read The End of Overeating?  I hear that's a good read.

Here is one that I'm slowly digesting (I read like I eat!)

"Food energetics"
http://www.stevegagne.com/

This is not as "Wo Wo" as it sounds, but its about the subtleties of diet and health, I wish more of his observations would be developed in more detail, there is so much to cover!
Tell me what you eat, and I'll tell you what you will become!

I am re-reading a fascinating book by Geneen Roth called "Women Food and God." It doesn't talk specifically about nutrition but focuses on the reasons many of us over-eat. It is not overtly spiritual but talks about how people, mainly women, tend to ignore stress or anxiety or fear and focus on food and eating instead. I also just got "Food Inc" on my Kindle thanks to a daily deal for $1.49. Couldn't pass it up and it seems to echo a lot of what Bauman College emphasizes as far as holistic sustainable organic food.

Thanks BluJay & Victoria! :)
Those look FANTASTIC! Right up my alley.

Right now I'm reading Drug Muggers (http://www.amazon.com/Drug-Muggers-Medications-Essential-Nutrients/dp/1605294160) Which I'm sort of skimming through since I'm not too impressed with the writing. :/

and have Diabetes Without Drugs waiting behind it (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1605296759/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1605294160&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=164STAZK97G8Q5J74NQ4) which I'm reading out of curiosity.

I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration though, thank you!

I just finished Green Medicine by Larry Malerba. It was so fascinating! It really challenged modern western medicine with such powerful facts. He also instead of simply putting down western medicine, he approaches it as how they can work together to benefit everyone. It really was an eye opener I definitely recommend it!
