Chef shoe question
« on: October 30, 2013, 07:26:51 PM »
I'm applying for the natural chef program in November. If my application is successful and I end up attending, I'm thinking of getting some dansko clog type shoes for the class.  I was wondering if there is a color preference or requirement? I know black would be professional looking but it seems you can get a better deal if you get red or some other color? Thanks!!!

I believe that the requirement is black shoes, not specifically clogs.

honestly, I can't stand them, but thats my personal and professional experience opinion. They are great if you are just standing around all day, but as a cook you are walking quickly on slippery surfaces with heavy loads and standing around alot, so a good shoe should do both. Clogs are great for the height increase if you are below 5'5", if you are tall then its counter productive for ergonomic functionality. So for me, comfort, durability and slip resistance is my priorities in that order when looking for a good shoe.  I would say start out with a shoe that is in your lower end of price range to meet your priorities, don't just buy expensive brand names.

I personally have and like Birkenstock shoes (they are a bit larger volume and lots of toe room)

The school dress code specifies black shoes. You can review the program dress code on the Natural Chef page of the website:

We look forward to having you in the program!!
