Title: Green smoothie dangers? From The Townsend Letter
Post by: DianeF on May 19, 2015, 11:43:26 AM
Just stumbled upon this article. Can anyone comment on this? Sounds like there are dangers we need to be aware of (high oxalates, anyone?)

Oxalates aren't a problem if we keep our beneficial gut bacteria high and healthy. Oh yeah, the microbiota. Again!

Even then, most labs fail to check for oxalobacter bacteria.  I know how difficult it is to restore the bacteria and a low oxalate diet might be worth a try.  This site might be helpful:

Someone who had gone nightshade free for pain got much better relief with a low oxalate diet.

Interestingly, Dr. William Shaw has a good article on how we also produce about 50% of out oxalates due to endogenous yeasts.  http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/home/eng/oxalates.asp (http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/home/eng/oxalates.asp)
He advised at a Weston A Price Foundation annual conference taking 100 mg of vitamin B6 to help the body deal with oxalates.
