Title: Above organic standards. NOS sets the bar higher!
Post by: blujay on April 02, 2008, 04:27:59 PM
Organic standards have been both a blessing and curse over the years for food producers and consumers. High quality committed small farms have had to compete with large organic companies that find every loophole and marketing ploy to just barely make it over the bar set by the organic standards. And the list of problems goes on with organic standards.

But now another organization is beginning to implement a new set of standards that ensures both nutritional supplements, products and foods meet an even higher standard, one that is naturally occurring in nature.

Here is a intro to their mission:

The Naturally Occurring Standard (NOS) is being established initially for the purpose of identifying, certifying, labeling, and verifying the naturally occurring vitamins and nutrients in all food products including bulk food materials, nutritional supplements and fortified foods and for the purpose of expressing a clear distinction between naturally occurring vitamins and nutrient containing products and those that contain synthetic vitamins and nutrients.

Learn about what they are planning and help to support this new standard.
